Cutting the Ribbon at Calvary’s New Home

December 11, 2012

On Sunday, Calvary officially cut the ribbon to open our new, state-of-the-art facility on Good Hope Road in Anacostia. As you may know, Calvary began this expansion project back in 2010 as a response to the growing crisis of homelessness in DC. In our new home, Calvary will grow to serve even more women every year and expand the range of support services they offer to homeless women.

As winter temperatures in DC continue to plummet, the opening of our new home also means that even more women will be offered a safe, warm home before the coldest days of winter hit, and just in time for the holidays.

Executive Director Kristine Thompson, Addiction Recovery Group Leader Beverly Sellers-Robinson, Board President Tracy Ballard, Campaign Chair Cindy Schwarz, and Deputy Director of Operations at The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness Cornell Chappelle all spoke at the ceremony. After the remarks, all of the speakers cut the ribbon together to officially welcome women into our new home. The ribbon-cutting also marked the official opening of the Life Skills, Education, and Arts Center, the new Wellness Center, and the Good Hope Kitchen.

Over 120 donors, volunteers, and other supporters of Calvary’s expansion project attended Sunday’s celebration. Guests enjoyed tours of the new building and light refreshments. To the supporters who were able to join us on Sunday – thank you for celebrating with us. For the friends who were unable to make it, we hope you will come visit us soon at Good Hope Road!
